"The Japanese numbering system is brilliant and I would buy the book for this feature alone."
Teacher of year1/year2

"The author is an experienced writer on Japan and both she and her photographer have lived there, so they are able to see its way of life from the inside. ......

Altogether a very well produced book which manages to include a variety of topics, an index, 'more information' and 'useful addresses and websites' within its small compass. The children depicted are from 3 to 12 years, covering pre-school and elementary schools in Japan. The illustrations are excellent; the text is clear and simple, so could be used at various stages. A good introduction to Japan by studying those who will influence itsfuture."

The School Librarian (Review by Joyce Banks.)

School by a volcano

For top primary and lower secondary, this book was one of four in the Schools around the world series which won the Geographical Association's SILVER AWARD for its 'contribution to the understanding of interaction between people and place'. The author was living in Kyushu when Mount Fugen was erupting and in vivid text and pictures she describes the eruption and how it affected Number Three School.
